Bermuda Barb's Story
We received a call that a mother koala and her joey were being attacked by two dogs in the backyard of a house in Port Macquarie. When our rescuers arrived mother and joey had been separated but were in the same tree. The mother was too high in the tree to be rescued but she had no obvious signs of injury. With the use of a ladder, we were able to rescue the the joey.
Unfortunately the joey was hurt and was not quite as lucky as her mother.
Little Barb obviously had a broken arm, which she seemed unable to move and was suffering from shock. We needed to get her X-rayed and treated as soon as possible. She was warmed and made comfortable in a basket and taken to the Veterinary Surgeon for X-rays.
After treatment, Bermuda Barb was released into the Christmas Bells Plains area.
