KOALA PRESERVATION SOCIETY of New South Wales

Adopt Bonny Willy

This sweet little joey came to us along with his mother, who was very ill. His mother was suffering from a severe skin condition, which thankfully did not appear to have spread to the joey. Some samples were taken and sent off to Sydney University for analysis and while  waiting for the results, both mother and joey were housed in isolation.

Thankfully the diagnosis was not sarcoptic mange (a horrible skin problem), but advanced hyperkeratosis, a non-contagious problem which is not uncommon in koalas. In the mother’s case it had been developing for a long period and her immune system had failed to keep things in check. Sadly and kindly, the decision was made to put the mother to sleep, and little Willy was then placed into home care.

He came back into the Hospital to be made ready for release, and he was released back into his home range in the Bonny Hills area.
