Adopt Bonny Blaze
When a local wild koala paid Koala Hospital resident, Bonny Fire, an unscheduled visit in November 2007, we had no idea that beautiful Bonny Blaze would be the result. Within three months, a distinctive wiggle in Bonny Fire’s pouch alerted us to the presence of a small unfurred joey. Volunteers waited eagerly for the first sighting of this little fellow as Bonny Fire’s pouch continued to expand. Finally, we were rewarded with a small arm poking out, then a glimpse of the tiny head, and then finally Bonny Fire’s joey grew too big for his furry home and he revealed himself to the world. After a naming competition held at the Koala Hospital open day in September 2008, “Bonny Blaze” became Bonny Fire’s joey’s official name, in honour of his mother’s surviving the Bonny Hills bushfires of 2001. It was commonplace to see Bonny Fire scampering along her gunyah with Bonny Blaze clinging expertly to her back. He learnt to eat eucalyptus leaf and even started venturing away—not too far! Bonny Blaze was released to the wild to establish his own home range.
